Signs Your Mighty Mule Access Control Installation Is Failing

• Remote clicks but gate doesn’t move. The opener motor and arm are healthy, but the receiver board isn’t passing the signal to the control logic. We test with a known-good remote first; if the red LED on the receiver flashes but the relay doesn’t click, the board has failed.
• Keypad lights up, accepts code, then nothing. This usually means the keypad’s output transistor is dead. The keypad thinks it’s working; the opener never hears it. On FM-series units, this happens after power surges - common in Los Gatos during winter storm season when branches hit lines.
• Gate opens on its own, typically mid-morning or late afternoon. The control board’s timer or limit-switch circuit is bleeding voltage. DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check whether the control box has power at the outlet, whether the GFI is tripped, and whether the low-voltage wiring has been chewed by rodents - we’ve found that twice in Los Gatos, once near Shannon Road and once off Tait Avenue.
