• The gate stops partway up a grade, then reverses or clicks. The motor is drawing excessive amperage as the gearbox wears, and the control board interprets this as an obstruction. DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check three things: whether the gate moves freely by hand (disconnected from the operator), whether the photocells are aligned and clean, and whether the breaker feeding the operator is intact. Those checks rule out false motor diagnoses.

What goes wrong with DIY motor replacement: the Linear motor weighs 18 to 34 pounds depending on the series, mounts under spring-loaded arm tension or chain tension, and connects to 115V or 230V wiring inside a grounded metal housing. Removing it without supporting the gate arm can damage the bracket, the gate itself, or you.
