The OEM bushing is Mighty Mule part FM148, though we regularly install a brass-lined aftermarket equivalent that outlasts the original in Los Gatos hillside conditions. The critical gotcha: early FM200 units shipped with a 0.550-inch pin, not 5/8. Measure with calipers before ordering; the wrong bushing will seat loose and egg out within months.

FM502 / FM600 / MM560 series (medium swing and dual-swing): Heavier 3/4-inch pins, often with a grease zerk that owners forget to hit twice yearly. The roller arm on these carries an actual ball-bearing roller, not a bushing, and the bearing seal fails before the race does. • The gate pauses at the same angle every cycle. This is the hinge pin binding in its ovaled bushing, not the operator struggling. The motor draws 2-3 amps extra at that point; left alone, the control board eventually faults on overload.

What you can check yourself: with the operator disconnected (pull the manual release), lift the gate by hand. Heavy but smooth means the operator may be the problem. Where DIY goes wrong: seized hinge pins on steel-frame gates often need an acetylene torch and a hydraulic press, not a hammer. The spring tension on a slide gate roller arm can release unexpectedly when the axle bolt comes out.
