Meet the Los Gatos Team Behind Vance Gate Repair Los Gatos
Every gate we touch in Los Gatos goes out with the same paperwork: a written price signed before the first wrench turns, a photo log of what we found and what we fixed, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise that doesn’t expire until the calendar says so. The four of us handle everything from a sagging wrought-iron pedestrian gate on Tait Avenue to a full access-control overhaul at a Saratoga-Los Gatos Road commercial property. What unites us isn’t a script - it’s the habit of documenting every adjustment so the next technician, whether it’s us or someone else years from now, knows exactly what was done.
Our People
Adrian Vance, Owner & Lead Technician
I started this company in 2014 after ten years wiring commercial access-control systems - the kind where a failed maglock at 2 a.m. means someone’s standing in a parking garage they can’t exit. That commercial discipline carried over: every job gets a wiring diagram, every visit gets photos, and every customer gets the price in writing before I touch anything. I still run the majority of service calls myself, partly because I like the work, partly because I don’t trust anyone else to notice when a FAAC 740 operator’s limit switch is drifting by three degrees before the customer does. I live in the hills above Los Gatos with two dogs who have learned to stay well clear of test cycles. If you call at 11 p.m. on a Sunday, I’m the one who answers - and if I’m already on another emergency, you’ll talk to a live person I’ve trained, not a machine.
Marcus T., Senior Installer
Marcus joined us in 2019 after six years building custom steel fencing in San Jose and another four doing gate automation for a competitor who shall remain nameless but whose “estimate” process made him visibly twitch. He’s our go-to for anything involving concrete footings, cantilever track alignment, or welding a broken cast-iron hinge back together instead of replacing the whole gate. Certified in structural welding (AWS D1.1), Marcus also holds factory training on LiftMaster and Viking operators - though he’ll work on whatever motor you’ve got, including the Mighty Mule you bought online and now regret. Off the clock, he restores vintage motorcycles and applies the same patience to a 1974 Honda CB750 that he does to getting a 16-foot swing gate plumb within an eighth of an inch. His photo logs are notorious for including a level bubble in every single shot.
Elena R., Service Coordinator
Elena answers the phone, schedules the calls, and handles the parts inventory - which means she’s the reason we actually have a Viking G5 gearbox in the van when your operator fails on a Friday evening. Before joining Vance Gate Repair in 2021, she spent eight years as a dispatcher for a commercial HVAC company in Santa Clara County, so she’s unflappable when three “urgent” calls come in simultaneously during a Los Gatos storm. She maintains our cross-reference database of part numbers across all nine brands we service, a spreadsheet that has saved countless hours of “will this actuator fit that bracket” guesswork. Elena grew up in the Almond Grove neighborhood and still points out gates we repaired when she drives past them. She does not, however, answer the phone with “it’s a great day at Vance Gate Repair” - she answers with her name, because you’re calling about a problem, not a mood.
James K., Apprentice Technician
James started with us in 2023 after completing a mechatronics program at De Anza College and deciding he’d rather fix real gates than program theoretical ones. He’s currently working toward his CSLB specialty contractor license and shadows Marcus on installations while handling simpler service calls solo - limit switch adjustments, photo-eye realignments, keypad reprogramming. His specialty so far is diagnosing Ghost Controls systems, which he claims are “not actually that complicated once you accept the manual was written by someone who has never seen a gate.” James lives in a Campbell apartment with a balcony too small for a grill but somehow large enough for the linear actuator he’s been tinkering with for a personal project he won’t fully explain. His photo logs are improving; last month he actually remembered to photograph the “after” state, not just the “before.”
One Standard, Every Job

The Haven Standard applies whether Adrian’s on the truck or James is flying solo for the first time. Clause 1 means the written price hits your hand before any work starts - no exceptions, no “let me check with the office” after we’ve begun. Clause 4 means documented evidence on every visit: what we found, what we adjusted, what we replaced, with timestamps and part numbers. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every completed repair for a full year, because a gate that fails again in month eight wasn’t fixed right the first time, and that’s on us. These aren’t marketing phrases we paste on a website - they’re the checklist we run through before leaving any property in Los Gatos, whether it’s a century-old estate off University Avenue or a new automated entry system off Knowles Drive. Ten home-service brands operate under this standard across California. In Los Gatos, you’re getting the same documentation, the same upfront pricing, and the same accountability that Adrian built the company on in 2014.
